Saturday, November 7th was the one year anniversary of Marcelo Lucero's death. He was murdered by seven Patchogue High School Students for being of a different color. Vigil in Memory of Marcelo Lucero

My family’s wish is to create a new environment of peace and unity for our community. We would like to invite members of all communities to share in the vigil in memory of my dear brother, Marcelo Lucero, on Saturday November 7 at 6pm next to the train station where he lost his life.

Southern Poverty Law Center Report: Climate of Fear

Less than one year ago, on Nov. 8, 2008, Marcelo Lucero, an Ecuadorian immigrant, was murdered in the town of Patchogue, N.Y. The killing, police say, was carried out by a gang of teenagers who called themselves the Caucasian Crew and it highlighted a growing national problem — violent hatred directed at all suspected undocumented immigrants, Latinos in particular.
