Thoughts on Community Outreach: The Shorefront Park Cleanup

On Sunday, August 30th Long Island Food Not Bombs shared free food and information with fellow islanders who were helping to clean up our public spaces. BiasHELP and Human Solidarity (an organization located near our Farmingville Food Share) helped organize the event. The goal was to both strengthen our community to fight for human rights and to clean up Shorefront Park in Patchogue.

Long Island Food Not Bombs was invited to share food at the event and we did with great excitement. LIFNB all star and participant, Rose, adds the following thoughts.

Karen & I went to Patchogue today for the Clean Up & to Share Food. We met some very nice people. It was a beautiful day. We even had a Suffolk County Cop stay for the day with us. I thought it was nice of him, but Karen reminded me that he gets paid to be there. The food share went well. We made some new contacts and people that are willing to help out in Farmingville. I have some phone numbers and email addresses, as well. All the bread went, every last loaf! The kids loved the little round squash, and the lettuce, string beans and eggplant - all gone :)

What a perfect day for people to share food and get along.
