Mirschel Park Community Gardening Project Planning

Learn more about our Mirschel Park community gardening project and check out some diagrams of what we're hoping to achieve. The Mirschel Park Gardening will be going on in Hempstead this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Please come down and check it out, and please bring your friends! <3's Long Island Food Not Bombs.

So our Mirschel Park community gardening project is only two days away. We're all really excited and we hope you're spreading the word to as many friends as you can. We need as much help as we can get!

If you have a facebook, you should invite your friends by clicking here.

If you're interested in what we're doing, the adjacent images (created by Vincent Cocca) outline some of our plans.

For starters we our going to be outlining most of the outer perimeter of the park with Sunflowers. These are of the same variety that we used last year and under the right conditions they can grow over 12 feet tall, with a flower over 1 foot in diameter.

In addition, we are going to be planting as many flower beds as possible. A representation of what these beds will look like is laid out in the adjacent diagrams as well. The number of flower beds we plant will be dependent on how many flowers folks share with us by this Saturday, so if you have flowers or seeds you'd like to share please bring them down.

Finally, we're also in great need of tools, especially hoes, trowels, rakes, weed whackers, work gloves and anything we can use from removing weeds. If you have any of the aforementioned items please bring them this weekend and help Hempstead community supported gardening grow!!!
