I just got a call from Susan Bernan of Tikkun Alliance of the North Shore (TANS). She is interested in joining FnB on Sunday Jan. 10, 2010 with her group TANS to share hot meals and clothing in Hempstead.

A little background:

TANS is a meta-group of 9 synagogues and 2 Jewish centers on the north shore of Long Island. They pool resources to provide hot meals and clothing for the hungry and homeless in Glen Cove and Hempstead. They run annual events that mimic 'midnight run' style clothing donations, but during the day because of the families that volunteer.

The vegan meat and potatoes:

TANS is running an event no matter what split between Glen cove and Hempstead to share hot food like pasta/ soup/ and even salad. They will also have coats and sleeping bags. They heard about us through 'Slow Food' which I personally know nothing about, but Jon can explain more about them.

Susan wants to bring 40 volunteers out to share the food and be part of our Food share on Jan. 10, 2009. No promise of weekly volunteers :(

I suppose the real discussion is: will we be prepared to handle a bunch of volunteer families and be prepared to a.) welcome TANS as part of the whole FnB thing? or b.) Identify ourselves as Food not Bombs( not TANS) if media comes out/ TANS volunteers do something we don't want to follow or promote?

I'm a little tired right now so sorry if I don't make any sense, but please comment. this could be awesome or just plain out of control.

-Mr. Vinnie
