So I've been working on a tri-fold flier for the Hempstead Food Share (It's a paper thats folded twice to make a 6 page brochure). Below are what I have for the 6 sections for this flier, please add your thoughts, should we put something else in? reword something? take something out?

Section 1

How Food Not Bombs works:
(diagram)

Bulk fruits & vegetables table:
-These tables are made up of certain bulk items that we know there are enough of for everyone. The idea is that everyone can get a little of everything at this table. If you want more of one thing and less of another just let the person sharing the food know.

Specialty Table:
-The specialty tables are made up of items that are limited and in high demand. This can include frozen foods, deserts, grocery items and miscellaneous produce. Because there is such verity but limited quantity its hard to make sure everyone gets exactly what they want, but that said you’ll probably get something good. When its your turn tell the folks behind the table what you’re looking for and they’ll do their best to help you out.

Bread Table:
-Fairly self explanatory, feel free to get a couple of loafs of bread for you and your neighbors

Clothing Table & Miscellaneous items:
-We always try to make sure that we have a table full of cloths. Feel free to help yourself if there's anything you like. Also feel to collect extra cloths and bring them to share with your neighboors each week.

Cooked Food Table:
The Cooked Food Table usually starts up 30-45 minutes after the food share. You can get a nice plate of vegan grub and join us for lunch.

Food Access Table:
This table is for people who have trouble standing in the crowd and could use some assistance in gathering their share of groceries. This table can be for the elderly, disabled and parents with young children. This table is not for able bodied adults.

Community Library:
This table is for knowledge

Section 2:

Behavior at the Food Share Table:

+Discrimination, threats & violence of any form will not be tolerated at our Food Share tables. If this is going on please let us know and we'll intervene. We're also eager to hear your thoughts on this matter.

+Please don't put your hand out, If you see someone doing this politely tell them this isn't charity. It might take some time but we'd like to talk to everyone and find out what you're looking for instead of just giving you something you might not want.

+Please respect the people sharing the food and the people in the crowd. There's no need to hustle for free food. There are a lot of people at Food Share tables and sometimes folks sharing food can get overwhelmed.

+If you're not helping to share the food at a particular table please avoid going to the back of that table. While the Food Share is going on we're constantly moving things back and forth and we need to keep this area clear.

+Once you get your share from a certain table, please step back let others get their share. If you'd like to get a second go at any table we ask that you come back to it in 20 minutes or after everyone else has gotten a share.

+Crowds can be really large at Food Shares, getting out of the crowd and coming back in will just make your wait longer.

Section 5

This is Solidarity, Not Charity!

What is Long Island Food Not Bombs?

Long Island Food Not Bombs wants to help organize and grow our collective communities in solidarity to overcome the social, economic and environmental oppressions that are inflicted upon our community and our planet.

This isn't charity, it's solidarity! We're not here to give out handouts. We're community members that feel like food is a human right and not a privilege. We share free vegetarian groceries, vegan meals, clothing, books and other essentials each week in towns across Long Island because we believe people have a right to eat, be clothed and live.

We also believe that if our government took all the money it spends on war and killing people just like us all around the world then we'd have more then enough money for everyone on this planet to have free food. This is why we're called Food Not Bombs.

We also believe that everyone has a right to healthcare, affordable housing, proper education, social services, mobility and community. Together we're trying to create an alternative system in which these rights are guaranteed to all peoples.

Food Not Bombs is community direct action and we hope you participate by sharing your ideas, getting involved and organizing our community.

Section 6
What you can share

We encourage folks to bring items they'd like to share (clothing, books, toys, etc...) to one of our various Food Shares (listed to the right). If you have anything that you'd like to share with Long Island Food Not Bombs we can arrange a pick up at a location and time of your convenance. Some items you could share are as follows - Clothing, Books, Toys, School Supplies, Plants/Seeds, Medical Care, Your Time, Bicycles, Flowers, Cooking Supplies, Table Supplies, Skills and knowledge, etc...

Jon,
This looks awesome! I can go through this draft and make spelling/grammar changes, or should I wait for a later draft once other people have put in thoughts about the brochure?
Monica
