Yes folks, Long Island Food Not Bombs has a new project nicknamed The Sunflower Project. Basically we're starting a giant community garden space in the center of hempstead. We're starting this weekend and it'll be a great opportunity to really help make something awesome.
What is The Sunflower Project?
We're taking a huge empty lot in the center of Hempstead, cleaning it up, and filling it with sunflowers and other garden plants. Sunflowers naturally clean soil as well as look great. We hope this project will be the start of a larger community garden space to come.
Where to find us?
Friday, April 25th: Meet outside the Hempstead train station @ 5pm. We'll be working until sunset, mostly cleaning up.
Saturday, April 26th: Meet up outside the Hempstead train station @ 9am. We'll be working the whole day through on tilling the soil and planting seed.
Sunday, April 27th: Long Island FNB will doing it's food share outside the Hempstead train station @ 1pm. Come check it out! Also if we do not finish on saturday we'll be continuing on sunday @ 2:30pm.
How to participate?
Just bring yourself and your friends... and your friends friends. If you have any gardening tools such as rakes (heavy + light), hoes, shovels, work gloves and garbage bags bring them as well.
**** We also ask that anyone who is coming let us know directly through email, phone, etc.. It's good to know how many volunteers we'll have and it'd be nice to talk to all you further about this project ****

Long Island Food Not Bombs (LIFNB) started its new community garden in Hempstead this past weekend; we're calling it the Sun Flower Project. Basically we're starting a giant community garden space in the center of Hempstead. We're continuing work this weekend and it'll be a great opportunity to really help make something awesome.
For starters we'd like to thank the dozens of people who came out and helped make this dream into a reality. So far we've cleared off half of the 8,400 square foot space, planting will start this weekend and the entire garden may be complete in the next two weeks.
That said we are in great need for volunteers this weekend, especially people who can come out this Saturday.
Pleas e spread the word, bring friends, family, children, robots (farm bots in particular) etc… Who's ready for awesome weekend 2?
