Halloween Benefit (Late October)

Is this something we want to do again? I think it could be really cool but we’re going to need to start work on the project now. We’ll need help with promotion, attain acts, decorations, fliers, attaining a venue, etc… If we do this, lets do this huge and aim for a few hundred people. Thoughts?

I’ve started this discussion about the event so we can all add our thoughts, interests and where we can individually help out.

How you can help:

*Add your thoughts about the event on the forum
*Help get big name acts
*Help promote
*Design Fliers, Posters
*Canvas, Wheat Paste
*Help get prizes
*Come up with awesome ideas for the event!!!
*Contact me or post on the forums if you’re interested.

Last year's benefit was a great outreach tool and brought us even closer to Vic & Charlotte (at the Cinema). We definitely need more people in Huntington who are able to do pickups and help with the kids.

I think the Cinema is a good venue -- we can draw in a Huntington High School crowd if we advertise in the area, and we don't need to pay the Cinema or give them a cut (if I remember it correctly ...). A dance party would just need a DJ, in case we can't find acts in time, and could also draw in all ages.

Maybe this year, we can have some free food (dinner-type stuff: pasta, juice, etc.) and sell vegan treats like brownies and donuts as a way to raise additional funds.

If we do it on a Wednesday, like we did last year, I can canvas Huntington the Saturday night before, and I can also decorate and help set up during the day. I'm not sure who to talk to about prizes, or what prizes to get.

Last thoughts: We could charge $5 with a donation of clothes or groceries, $7 w/o. Finally, we can aim to distribute the 'zine at this event -- it could be a Halloween Party and a launch party.

So far the only idea we have for a venue is the cinema arts centre, the only problem with this is that we'd have to be out by 12ish... Any other thoughts? We'd need a large venue preferably in the Huntington or Hempstead area.

We were thinking trying to get the sky room in the cinema arts centre, it can hold 300 easy, We were also looking into other venues as well.

By the way, if you're responding anonymously please add your name/contact information so we can start getting to work.
