We've understood for a while that people with disabilities, young children or the elderly have some serious problems dealing with the crowd. To avoid this I've been talking about creating a food access table. This table would be for people having trouble getting food. Basically folks could come to the table and someone at the table can go around to the different stations to make them a bag of food. What does everyone think about this?

Food Access
I mentioned last night after the food share in Huntington and I will say it again, and expand on the idea. We have a good start on this idea. I like making a table just for this cause. But lets talk logistics...I think if we put out a table that people will gather there in expectation of food being placed on it. but we should consider how to communicate across language boundaries to make it clear what the intent of the table is.
Lets just place the commonly used handicap symbol either on the table itself or on a sign. Then it is just a matter of keeping anyone working the table very well informed about food stuffs that have run out. With a two person team, someone who is "running" the food could keep the person working the table in the know. The person working the table can in a way take an order from the community member, and as best as possible provide everything that the community member seeks.
We need more people to help. This could easily be done by someone in the community as well.
more thoughts
I think it would be possible to not have any food at this table. We could just have a person with a pen and paper who could take orders and pass it onto someone who will run and grab stuff. Also, I know we need some way of keeping this table separate from the others but I'm not sure a handicap sign is the best way of going about it... just thoughts.
