The Sunflower Project Week[end] 5, May 23rd-25th
So The Sunflower Project has suffered some serious delays due to rainouts these past two weeks. The good news is that this weekend is supposed to have perfect weather and that's exciting because with your help we'll be able to complete the garden by the start of next week.
But this will only happen if we get as many people out to help as possible, that means you and your friends/family/coworkers/etc… Like always Saturdays are our biggest workdays, but it's important to come out on Friday and Sunday as well. Below is our work schedule, try to make atleast one of these and help out by spreading the word on the Sunflower Project.
Friday, May 23rd: Meet outside the Hempstead train station @ 5pm. We'll be working until sunset.
Saturday, May 25th: Meet up outside the Hempstead train station @ 9am. We'll be working until sunset. Free food and drink will be available
Sunday, May 26th: Long Island FNB will doing it's food share outside the Hempstead train station @ 1pm. Come check it out! Also if we do not finish on saturday we'll be continuing on sunday @ 2:30pm. We'll keep working till sunset on sunday as well.

What is the Sunflower Project?
Long Island Food Not Bombs (LIFNB) started its new community garden in Hempstead this month; we're calling it the Sunflower Project. Basically we're starting a giant community garden space in the center of Hempstead. We're continuing work this weekend and it'll be a great opportunity to really help make something awesome.
What have we done so far?
With the help of dozens of awesome volunteers we've clean up a 8,400 square foot space that was filled with trash, we've tilled over 60 percent of the land using no machinery. We're laying out walkways, getting ready to seed, tilling a little more, and having a lot of fun. You can click on the following link to see some pics.

How to Participate?
Just bring yourself and your friends... and your friend's friends. If you have any gardening tools such as rakes (heavy + light), hoes, shovels, work gloves and garbage bags bring them as well. Also feel free to bring a boombox and your tunes. It may also be a good idea to bring a raincoat and change of clothing depending on the weather.
**** We also ask that anyone who is coming let us know directly through email, phone, etc.. It's good to know how many volunteers we'll have and it'd be nice to talk to all you further about this project ****
