The Long Island Food Not Bombs Farmingville Food Share is an awesome sight and the food share this past Thursday was particularly awesome, namely because we had an ice-cream truck.

Yes, an ice-cream truck! Last week, the owner of the local MetroPCS chain on Horseblock Rd. joined our Farmingville Food Share. He was so inspired by what he saw that he decided to rent an ice-cream truck to share free treats with the community at this weeks food share. Needless to say the ice cream was a great addition.

That night hundreds of people were able to get six or seven large bags of fresh groceries including produce, breads, milks, cereals, etc… and afterwards everyone got to sit down and enjoy some frozen treats. It was another great Farmingville Food Share and we thank the local MetroPCS store for supporting Long Island Food Not Bombs.

Adding a little about the Farmingville Food Share…

Every Thursday afternoon cars loaded to the max with food arrive at our Horseblock Rd. location. Volunteers having spent the afternoon traversing across Long Island bring thousands of pounds of collected groceries, clothing, books and other necessities to share with the hundreds of community members that join us each week.

Solidarity means that everyone sticks together and that’s exactly what happens at this food share. Everyone in the community helps out, everyone unloads the cars, everyone helps to set up the tables, everyone helps share the food with each other, and everyone helps clean up. When there are decisions to be made they’re made as a community and they are reached with consensus.

The Farmingville Food Share, like our other Food Shares rocks! If you’re interested in participating please contact us. It’s fun and you make great friends.
