A few things by Rose

I want to talk about a few things, Farmingville started with a meeting at a park in Port Jefferson on a
summer night. Several of us met; with some new faces, some old, and we
agreed on Farmingville for our third food share on Long Island. We
picked a night that would work for everyone, every week; and before you
knew it, Farmingville was our regular Thursday night Food Share.

Racism started at our first night in Farmingville. We were greeted on
the street by Margaret Bianculli, from the Sachem Quality of Life, a
local hate group. Margaret tried to stop the food share, she even
called the police, but when the officer learned that we were not selling
food, but giving it away; he wished us his best.

Farmingville has been going strong the past several months, never
missing a day, not even Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve or New Years Eve.

The cooking parties leading up to the Thanksgiving Share were a lot of
fun, but also hard work. We would all meet at Jon’s house, and cook
and cook and cook; with most of the volunteers staying up all night, and
then delivering the wonderful vegetarian meals the following day.

My favorite event of 2009 was the toy share; this started way before Christmas. I
personally told everyone I knew what we were doing, that we wanted to
have an abundance of toys for Hempstead, Huntington, and Farmingville
 Food Shares.

I asked all my friends and coworkers to please help out
by donating used or new toys, clothing, and anything they could. Well, the response was overwhelming! We picked up toys and clothing
anywhere and everywhere!

I think one way we can improve Long Island Food Not Bombs, is to have
certain people responsible for certain Food Shares. This way the same
people are not doing all the food shares every week. We also need help
from a lawyer, so we can start the paperwork to get our Not for Profit ID.
My hopes for the future are: getting a Not for Profit ID, More Food Shares, More help and More Food!!!!

Peace & Love,
